Cities are dynamic entities, and those of us who are dedicated to working in this field must always be in tune with the new demands of their inhabitants. In recent decades, we have seen an ever-growing need for areas that are closed-off and where pet owners can enjoy leisure time with their cherished companions. Our Canes range responds to this new lifestyle parting from a triple premise: to provide exercise modules that are suitable for pets, to offer parks designed to meet the demands of their owners, and to guarantee parks with well-defined boundaries of the area. Although we advocate contact with nature as a source of wellbeing, this contact must always be voluntary. Following the advice of veterinarians and trainers, we have adapted some of the elements of the dog agility circuits to the urban environment, while also proposing a basic guide to the layout of such spaces for optimal shared leisured activity: a fenced area; double door access to prevent dogs from running out when a new visitor comes into the area; including a water fountain; providing bag dispensers for excrements; adding benches for pet owners, etc... Spending leisure time with pets is a new social trend, and the design of this type of space fosters civic tolerance: we can all share public spaces if we foster respect and security.
